FUSE
A collaboration brief with TSPTR

The Brief

To create a zine informed by the methodology behind TSPTR’s ‘Homegrown’ collection. The ideas and associated themes are there for you to critically analyse and interpret in ways that are personal to you. So, individual research is vital to create a piece of work that is contextually and culturally relevant, both to you and your audience.

My Response

My approach to this brief included a process of finding a theme that was personal and relevant to me. As a person of mixed race I felt strongly about focusing my zine on my Caribbean culture, this brief allowed me to freely explore something that I was passionate about whilst educating myself further on the celebrations of the Crop Over festival, celebrated in Barbados, as well as Notting Hill Carnival, celebrated in London. The FUSE zine included the history and timelines of each celebration with fashion being a running theme throughout. Both celebrations are recognised for their elaborate costumes that they parade through the streets, which led me to my zine name of FUSE - Fashion Uniting Social Experiences.
